Troballes
By Mireia Ruiz
In Catalan, “troballes” is the plural of “troballa”, meaning “find” or “discovery”. It comes from the verb “trobar”, which means “to find”. The pieces of wood that make up the work are encounters I have had in the forest, in the streets of Barcelona, and in my carpenter’s discard bin. These encounters between the pieces and my hands come together in a meticulous process of collage. Fitting each piece together like a Tetris puzzle to create a work that represents the idea of making something majestic out of what I have found and giving new life to objects that would otherwise have been discarded. “Troballes is about transforming the ordinary into something meaningful.
