The visceral quality of the paint, stain, stroke, and color come together to create the impression of a landscape. Without recognizable forms, the expression is rather felt than identified, layers building up to create an ambiguous whole. The diverse medley of colors and textures transports viewers to the perception of the artist as their actions and attitudes are preserved in the expressive movement of each element.

Decor tips: The color palette and rhythm can complement the rough-hewn atmosphere of an industrial interior for an edgy rawness in the living room or open-plan studio. Also a great piece to stand out in the understated design of a modern space balancing the urban aesthetic with more natural and improvised forms. .

Description

Cristina De Castro | Colombia

The core of artist Cristina Di Castro’s work is characterized by the central theme of the osmosis of what surrounds us. She retains an interest in streams of knowledge itself such as the phenomenon of perception, scientific concepts of time and space, and theories that modify and question our surroundings, identities, and the spiritual aspects of humanity. Born in Bogota, Columbia, she first studied Fine Art at the Departmental Institute of Fine Arts in the city of Cali. To this day she continues to nurture her education continuously taking refresher courses on modern and contemporary art in different institutions such as the Banco de la Republica, Misol foundation for the arts; with renowned art critics and curators such as Alvaro Medina, Carlos Quintero and Nestor Martinez, drawing courses with the artist Natalia Castañeda and Blanca Moreno. In her compositions these thematic threads of knowledge are interwoven with a sensitivity to her own momentous story. Both materials and meanings are treated as transient, more fluid, blurred, and expressing the impossibility of feeling identified with the current reality- seeking new stages of realization. She has exhibited solo and as a contributor to group shows in Columbia as well as internationally in the United States, Mexico, Spain, and Austria. Her works are also part of private collections worldwide.
