A sunset portrait of the beautiful Kisaru, one of the famous cheetahs of the Masai Mara in Kenya.
Cheetahs are known to be the fastest land animal, with the ability to sprint at speeds of up to 120 km/h (75 mph).

They face extinction pressure due to climate change, hunting and habitat destruction by humans. Their numbers have declined from an estimated 100,000 in 1900 to about 6,000-7,000 today.

Cheetah experts and volunteers are doing research to help recover the population through health and reproduction, technology, cheetah census research, ecological research, and human-wildlife conflict research. There is hope, but only time and continued conservation efforts will tell if their alarming trend toward extinction can be altered.
