The Weight of the Gaze
$866This is a painting about paintings. Viewing a painting is a subjective experience. As spectators, we perceive what we see with our senses, but we grant it meaning through the lens of our values and emotions.
One of the main elements that captures the viewer’s attention is the hands in the painting on the wall – the hands stretched across generations – which is actually creation of Gyuk, a young creator from Barcelona between street painting and illustration, but also friend of Oscar, the artist, with whom he has shared many conversations about life and art. The hands not only symbolize the old and new ways of doing things, but also the manipulative forces that surrounds our living, that rule us in the shadows, making us puppets of a play whose script we would never know.
The weight of the gaze is there, little by little, to unravel all these.
